Sets an alternate name that is used to compare against the name returned in the host's [[Transport Layer Security|TLS]] certificate.
This name can also be supplied by appending =''acceptname'' to the hostname (see [[host name syntax]]).

This value is ignored when the [[-noverifycert command-line option (pr3287)|-noverifycert command-line option]] is supplied.

This option is needed when the host certificate contains a name other than the one used to connect to it, or when a numeric host address must be used in place of a name to make the connection.
